Bristol skipper Enright honored with new perpetual trophy

Posted

Charlie Enright, the winning Ocean Race skipper who got his start sailing in the waters of Bristol Harbor out of the East Bay Sailing Foundation and the Bristol Yacht Club, returned to his old stomping grounds on Dec. 3 to deliver a multimedia presentation of his 11th Hour Racing team’s challenges and ultimate victory in the last Ocean Race, which concluded this past summer in Genoa, Italy.

At the end of the presentation, which included remarks from friends and fellow sailors Chris Brito and Peter Levesque as well as father Tom Enright, Commodore Paul Redman unveiled BYC’s new perpetual trophy, the Enright Outstanding Achievement in Offshore Sailing Award, with Charlie’s name engraved on the trophy as its first recipient.

The trophy will hang in the Chart Room.

“It’s a real honor to have something that bears your name hanging in a storied place like the Bristol Yacht Club,” said Enright, reached after the event. “Hopefully it inspires future participation in offshore sailing, particularly for the next generation of young local sailors.”
