The number of positive COVID-19 cases connected to a high school party hosted in Bristol on Oct. 24 has grown to 21, Gov. Gina Raimondo announced during her briefing Thursday afternoon.
As many as 350 people are now in quarantine, she added.
“Four school districts and multiple sports teams have all been impacted by this, their lives up-ended,” Gov. Raimondo said.
Since raising awareness about that party during her Oct. 30 briefing, Gov. Raimondo said she has seen two very different responses. Some parents have agreed that they need to do a better job of educating their children about the rules, while others have said that the incident was just “kids being kids.” She has even heard from other high schoolers who are wanting to be part of an even larger super-spreader event.
Saying it's all a joke, continuing to have parties -- it is the kind of mentality that could lead to another Rhode Island shutdown, Gov. Raimondo warned. Businesses would fail, jobs and lives lost -- all of which could be easily avoided.
“That would be a shame, it would be wrong, it would be devastating,” she said.
