A small group of people gathered outside of Rogers Free Library in downtown Bristol this evening to protest the library board of trustees' decision to cancel an upcoming event called "Drag Queen Story Hour," originally scheduled for next month.

Fueled by Facebook coverage and reaction to the decision, many people promised a protest this evening, and a short time later, they started showing up on the sidewalk in front of the library. Among the protesters were prominent members of the Bristol Democratic Town Committee, including chairman Erich Haselhurst, corresponding secretary MaryKae Wright, Tony Morrettini and others.

The board of trustees are expected to release a statement on the cancellation of the event soon.
