The second annual Bristol Police Dept. “Trunk or Treat” Halloween event, in partnership with the Bristol Prevention Coalition, was another great success, as scores of children, accompanied by their parents, grandparents and loved ones, filed into the BPD visitors parking lot off Bay View Avenue Sunday to enjoy an afternoon filled with candy, popcorn, and other treats, along with appearances by Chase from Paw Patrol, Ghostbusters, Batman, BPD K-9 “Brody,” and a petting zoo. There was even an appearance by Elvis (Sgt. Ricardo Mourato).
Police Chief Kevin Lynch seemed to be right in his element with the children, who interacted very well with police personnel and members of the Bristol Prevention Coalition. He called the event “a great success.”
“Many thanks to the countless volunteers and organizations for a special spooky second annual Trunk-r-Treat evening at the Bristol Police Department,” he said. “Thanks to Bristol Town Administrator Steven Contente and the Town Council for their support, Chief Michael DeMello and the entire BFD Team, Director Chris Parella and the entire DPW Team, Bristol Prevention Coalition, Mt. Hope Farm, Bristol House of Pizza, and Representatives June Speakman and Susan Donovan and Senators Walter Felag, Cindy Coyne, and James Seveney.”
The Chief continued, “Lastly, a special thanks to our event organizer Sgt. Michael Vieira, Sgt. Ricardo Mourato (Elvis), Officer Keith Medeiros and “Brody,” SRO Officer Greg Silvia, Detective John Ferreira, Clerk/Dispatcher Natalie Stone, and ACO Heather Pavao.”
“This is the second year that I was fortunate to organize the event in partnership with the Bristol Prevention Coalition, which I am proudly a member of,” added Sgt. Vieira. “We were able to acquire donated funds which was put towards ensuring safety for pedestrians, entertainment for the youth that took part in the event, and of course, candy.”
