Newport Dance Festival July 19-24

Newport's own Island Moving Company will be joined by five visiting dance companies during the Newport Dance Festival, held from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on the nights of July 19-24. The performances will be held on the lawn of the Great Friends Meeting House in Newport. Guests are invited to bring outdoor seating, blankets and picnics.  Headliners of the festival include groups from Boston, New York City and Italy. One-day tickets are $38 for lawn seating and $48 for reserved chair seating. Flex pases (5 tickets for any show) are available at $165 for lawn seating and $205 for reserved seats. All tickets are for sale at the Island Moving Company website.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
