Mt. Hope robotics team competes at state championship
Two robotics teams from Mt. Hope competed at the New England Institute of Technology over the weekend at the state FIRST championship competition.

Mt. Hope robotics team competes at state championship
Saturday, March 4, 2023 was the RI FTC Robotics Championship hosted at New England Institute of Technology. Two Mt. Hope teams (652 Underdogs and 3351 TaterBots) competed against 24 teams across Rhode Island. These two teams advanced from the qualifier event that took place in January.
“Not only did the teams have an incredible experience, they made connections with other teams, and worked together on engineering solutions,” said Marny Kindness, coach for the robotics team. “The cheering section for MHHS was by far the loudest. While Mt. Hope didn’t take home any awards, the students competed with absolute enthusiasm and gracious professionalism.”
Robotics head coach Ryan Garrity, when asked about the future of the robotics club at Mt. Hope — the school no longer offers robotics as a standalone course, instead opting to wrap it up in a larger engineering curriculum — he said he wasn’t sure at this point.
“There is still much uncertainty in what the future holds for the Mt. Hope Robotics Club,” he said. “I am just thankful to have a great group of students that enjoy what they do.”
