Lorraine Theresa Tolar "Brown"

Lorraine Tolar passed away on November 15th 2021 in the comfort of her Indiana home with family members close by her side at the age of 84.

Lorraine was born on February 28, 1937, in Bristol, R.I., where she has now returned for a celebratory mass and burial. A daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Rosary (Cardoza) Brown, she graduated from Bristol Colt with National Honors and established herself as a homemaker and worked in healthcare business.

Lorraine, a devout and inspiring Catholic for the duration of her entire life (in addition to a 3rd order of the Carmelite Nuns and sisters of St. Dorothy) will be honored and celebrated through mass at St, Elizabeth's Catholic Church ,located on: 577 Wood Street in Bristol, R.I., on Friday Jan. 7, at 9 a.m..

Lorraine was preceded in death by her daughter, Jane Marie Tolar in 1997; and three brothers, Sonny, Theodore and Anthony Brown.
Survivors include: one sister: Elsie Edney (Brown); four children, Jack Martin Tolar Jr. (Lori Tolar) Kathy Ann Dattoli "Tolar" (John Sanders) Mary Rose Tolar and James Theodore Tolar (Jeanne Tolar), in addition to numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, Masses including Gregorian masses are requested and appreciated.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
