Letter: Your apology was not enough to repair the damage

I would like to commend you for having taken a positive first step by your publishing an apology to Dyshell Palmer, Lisa Peterson and Stephan Brigidi, but in my opinion, more needs to be done to repair the damage your misguided decision to publish Mr. Cooper’s hateful, personal attack.

While your apology was better than Congressman Yoho’s (non) apology, it would have been significantly stronger had you not attempted to rationalize your poor decision, as you did when you were called to cancel our subscription. A full, sincere apology recognizes the impact of your decision on others without trying to explain it away. I believe that it is imperative for you to extend your apology to your entire readership as you failed to live up to the standards you set for yourself in your letters to the editor policy.

Finally, you also owe the entire community an apology for having contributed to the further degradation of civil discourse which you had previously espoused as important. If and when you do so, you will be taking the important next step in fulfilling your responsibility to our community.
