To the editor:

I try so hard to ignore the comments by Mike Proto but sometimes he just goes too far. Mr. Proto, just who do you think you are to say that many Bristolians don't believe the events in Uvalde, Texas are relevant? Who are you to speak for others? First, everyone is a racist except you. Now no one cares about the murder of innocent children except you.

What a wonderful human being you must be. Sir, everyone cares and was hurt by what happened in Uvalde. Especially parents with small children. That's why when we can't do much about a situation we offer our “thoughts and prayers”. Many of us believe in a merciful God who hears our prayers and brings healing even out of the most evil of circumstances. The fact is there is something we are all doing as a country that is very wrong and is causing these incidents. Something much deeper than guns alone and way beyond the ability of Republicans alone.

Rational people need to have serious conversations to come up with a solution. In the meantime I'll go to my bedroom where I can offer my “thoughts and prayers” to God for an end to school shootings and for the solace of the victims’ families.
