To the editor:
When I took orders to Newport back in 2010, I was excited. I’m from New England, and I couldn’t wait to get back to my roots.
I was in the Gulf of Oman on an aircraft carrier when I started looking at homes for sale near Newport. Then I looked a little to the north, and saw the town of Bristol. I found a decent house for sale.
I started doing some research and immediately fell in love with the idea of living here. This patriotic, freedom-loving town was everything I had ever looked for to call home.
For more than 22 years, I lived where the Navy told me to. I loved Bristol so much, I decided to retire here.
I have met plenty of people I disagree with since I’ve lived here, but they kept to themselves, and at least lived their lives with a “live and let live” mindset.
What happened? This town has changed to the point where people want to dictate how other people can dance — because a drag show is something they disagree with.
Don’t like drag shows? Don’t go to them. I don’t like bigots, so I avoid them. The problem is, bigots don’t set up private events at breweries, they try to make laws against people they disagree with.
