The commissioners are discussing the opportunity for a family to have a tree or trees in North Burial Ground memorialize a family member.
To the editor:
On behalf of Superintendent Ramsay and the Commissioners of the Cemeteries, thank you for the wonderful and informative article regarding the cemeteries of Bristol, especial noting North Burial Ground.
As an update to the article, here are the latest burials statistics at North Burial Ground from July 1, the beginning of the Fiscal Year: Full body burials: 6, total cremations 24, clearly showing the trend that cremation has taken hold in Bristol
Speaking of North Burial Ground, this is a great opportunity to mention something in the works.
The commissioners are discussing the opportunity for a family to have a tree or trees in North Burial Ground memorialize a family member. The specific details have not been worked out, however, Bill Chittick, our volunteer arborist, has identified the location for the placement of 80 new trees around North Burial Ground.
We also have the tree map showing the location of the more recently planted trees available for memorialization. The memorialization would include the tree, a sign identifying the name of the tree and the name of the individual memorialized with their dates of birth and death.
If you are interested in more information, or to place your name and the name of your loved one on a list for a tree, please contact me directly or the Office of Superintendent Ramsay, 401-253-6426.
