To the editor:
Last week's Phoenix contained a letter to the editor lampooning and ridiculing a previous letter by former school committee candidate Tony Morettini regarding the improved test scores in the Bristol-Warren Regional School District, and while I found the letter criticizing Tony offensive, it did not surprise me, as that individual has submitted numerous letters to the editor against Tony, myself, and pretty much every other Democrat in the town of Bristol in the opinion pages of the Phoenix.
And while I was disappointed that Tony did not win office in the recent election, I take solace in the fact that every general officer in the state of Rhode Island, the vast majority of our state legislature, and our entire federal delegation are all Democrats, and these elected Democrats will continue to support the issues that are important to myself and many other Bristolians, such as the teaching of comprehensive sex education in our public schools, equal treatment for the undocumented, and insuring a woman's right to safe, legal, and readily available abortion.
I hope Tony Morettini takes the comments in last week's Phoenix with a grain of salt, and I encourage him to seek political office in the future, so we can continue to move our town forward instead of living in the past.
