To the editor:
The Town is to be congratulated on their acquisition of the property at Gooding Avenue and Metacom. This wooded and partially wetland tract is an important part of the wetlands that help hold back flood waters feeding Silver Creek. Hopefully, the town will be able to continue obtaining these wetlands to aid in mitigating the problems at the too low bridge at Hope Street.
The land will pay for itself in the savings on these problems and prevent the high cost to the Town if there was any attempted development. It is gratifying to see such permanent preservation of open space that is an integral part of a functioning watershed. The Silver Creek System is a largely hidden gem that holds great potential for wildlife and recreation while adding to the beauty of Bristol.
