We are proud members of the Bristol Democratic Town Committee and prouder still of the recent surge in enthusiasm among local Democrats that has resulted in the growth of the committee to more than 100 members.
The committee today is a strong blend of members with decades of institutional knowledge and many energetic new members who bring energy and ideas to the table. All members of the committee – whether they have served on the committee for decades, just joined, or fall somewhere in between – are dedicated to working together and focused on the committee’s principal goal to serve Democratic candidates and promote Democratic values in Bristol.
Political engagement is for all kinds of people with all kinds of ideologies. People sitting in a room with the officials elected to serve them discussing issues and policy is the basis of our democracy. As Democrats we sit together and discuss issues, share ideas and offer one another insights into our varied perspectives. We welcome points of view, seek to understand each other, and strive to make decisions that reflect and respect the concerns of each of us. In so doing, we better serve our town and community. There is no room for name calling or labeling when we are truly listening to one another. There is plenty of room for many ways of thinking.
Voter turnout in 2018 will determine whether the values we hold are heard. Our goal as a committee is to engage as many voters as we can, register new voters, and encourage people to participate in the democratic process – not walk away from it.
We are confident that the Bristol Democratic Town Committee will continue to move forward and be an even stronger force in support of its goals with its new infusion of members.
We believe our committee is stronger today than it was a few weeks ago, and we are looking forward to this election cycle to support our endorsed candidates and help lead them to Democratic victories.
