To the editor:

The Bristol 4th of July Block Dance Party originated in the 50s, spearheaded by a wonderful woman who was a renowned educator, including time as a teacher, principal, and coach in the Bristol School Department, Naomi Carpenter.

The street affair was the Bristol Stomp, named for a popular 50s song by the Dovells, “The Bristol Stomp”. This Block Dance Party has evolved, currently on the Town Common, no longer in the street near Reynolds School for obvious safety concerns and occurrences in our present times. Though it is still affectionately called the Bristol Stomp by some.

Come Saturday night, June 17, to the basketball court on the Common from 6-10 p.m. for the 2023 Block Dance Party. The event will feature DJ Sean Palumbo, so come enjoy some dancing along with some instruction featuring music from the 50s to present day. It is a family event, all ages are welcome.

In the event of rain, the party will be held at the Bristol Maritime Center. The event is sponsored by Greentree Healthcare Management, Silver Creek, and Downhill Nursing Homes.
