I attended a recent forum at Rogers Free Library hosted by state Rep. Susan Donovan, District 69, and Rep. June Speakman, District 68. We had a chance to hear what issues are currently being considered by our state government, learn how a bill gets proposed and moved to the floor for a vote, and where to get timely information about what the state legislature is doing (ri.gov).
Both representatives listened to all our concerns and addressed them, clarifying their jurisdiction, the town’s decision-making, and the role of public utilities. They addressed environmental, school and safety concerns. They encouraged the public to write letters to the editor when they read or learn something that is untrue.
We are very fortunate to have had this opportunity for open, honest conversation with our legislators, and we look forward to future meetings. This is truly government for the people and by the people. I encourage everyone to take advantage of future forums.
