Joseph Silva Gomes, 81, Bristol

Joseph Silva Gomes, 81, of Francine Street, Bristol, passed away on March 8, 2022, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Gilberta Maria (Alves) Gomes.

Born in Relva, São Miguel, Açores, he was the son of the late Joao and Maria da Conceiçao (Silva) Gomes. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Aida Cabral and her husband Luis of Bristol, and Joseph Gomes of Bristol; two grandchildren, Marc Cabral of Bristol and Haley Gomes of North Providence; and a great-granddaughter, Sara Cabral of Bristol. He was the brother of John Gomes and his late wife Lurdes Gomes. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Odilia Fernandes, and her husband, Teotónio. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gomes was educated in Portugal and employed by General Cable Company before retiring in 2000.

His funeral services were held March 14 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Gilda Cordeiro and Haley Gomes. The offertory gifts were presented by Marc Cabral, Haley Gomes and Sara Cabral. Burial followed in North Burial Ground. Serving as pallbearers were John Gomes, Joe Gomes, Neno Gomes, John Gomes Sr., Marc Cabral, Joe Fernandes, Arnold Mauricio and John Botelho.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Elizabeth's Church.
