Jose Gabriel Medeiros, 62 of, Bristol

Jose Gabriel Medeiros, 62, of State Street, Bristol, passed away on Oct. 8, 2020, at Newport Hospital.

He was the husband of Rosa Maria Barbosa.   

Born in Relva, St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of Maria (Silveira) Medeiros and the late Eleuterio Medeiros. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children, Stephanie Medeiros of Pennsylvania and Scott J. Medeiros and his wife Heidi Costa of Fall River, and grandchildren, Robert Domingos, Julianna Domingos and Gabriella Domingos.

He was the brother of Joao (Rosa) Medeiros, Octavio (Deborah) Medeiros, Connie (Joao Carlos) Medeiros, Adeline (Tony) Avila, Lisa (Oscar) DeLemos and Carmen (John) Ferreira.

Mr. Medeiros was educated in Portugal and employed by Symmetrix Composite Tooling. 

His funeral services were held Oct. 14 from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Marinaldo Batista at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Carmen Medeiros and Josselyn DeLemos. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Laura Medeiros. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were John Paul Medeiros, Benny Medeiros, Brian Avila, Jonathan DeLemos, Kevin Medeiros and Joshua Ferreira.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
