Jeannie M. (Ferreira) McPhillips, 67, of Bristol, R.I., passed away, Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, R.I.

She was the wife of the late Charles “Charlie” Thomas McPhillips.

Born in Providence, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Anna (Verna) Ferreira.

Mrs. McPhillips had worked as a secretary at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol for 15 years, retiring in 2006. She was a Communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Bristol. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter, Samantha McPhillips, and her companion, Derek DiFederico, of Southbridge, Mass., and two grandchildren, Addy DiFederico and Alayna DiFederico.

Arrangements are by Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd., Warren, where the family will receive friends, on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021, from 8 to 9 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood St., Bristol.

Burial will take place in North Burial Ground, Hope St., Bristol.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
