Isaura Maria Sousa, 68, of Bristol

Isaura Maria (Tavares) Sousa, 68, passed away on April 18, 2019, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late John Sousa.

Born in Capelas, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Salvador R. and Guiomar (de Sousa) Tavares. Isaura is survived by her children,  Joseph Sousa, and his wife Angela of Bristol, John Sousa and his wife Deana of Cranston, and Steven Sousa of Bristol; grandchildren, Kimberly Sousa, Matthew Sousa, Emma Sousa, Savannah Sousa, Kassandra Sousa, Juliana Sousa, Alaina Sousa, Jessica Sansone, Victoria Sousa, John Sousa, Steven Sousa and Leila Sousa; and great-grandson, Owen Sansone. She was the sister of Fatima DeSousa, Manuel Luis Tavares, Ana Martins, Antonio Tavares and John Tavares and the late Salvadore Tavares and Fernando Tavares.

Isaura was educated in Portugal and employed by the former Premier Thread, Converse, and PF Industries before retiring.   

Her funeral services were held April 25 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Jorge Rocha at St. Elizabeth Church.   Liturgical readings were by Emma Sousa and Kim Sousa.  The Prayer of the Faith was read by Victoria Sousa, and the offertory gifts were presented by Steven Sousa, Leia Sousa and Matt Sousa.

Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Paul Semeio, Matt Sousa, Steven Sousa, Kevin Soares, Chris Courtney and John Sousa.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
