Elvira Costa, 89, of Bristol

Elvira (Santos) Costa, 89, of Kennedy Court, Bristol, passed away on Aug. 6, 2021, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice. She was the wife of the late Joseph Costa Jr.   

Born in Bristol, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Angelina (De Jesus) Santos. She is survived by her son, Kevin Costa, and his fiancé, Kate Hicks; and her grandson, Ethan Costa. She was the sister of Mary Macedo, David Santos and Danny Santos.

Mrs. Costa was educated in Bristol and was a homemaker.

Her funeral services were held Aug. 9 from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Ethan Costa and Helene Macedo. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Kate Hicks, and the offertory gifts were presented by Mary Macedo and Lori Hubbard. The eulogy was given by Kevin Costa.

Serving as pallbearers were Dan Santos, David Santos, Mike Macedo, Larry Macedo and Dylan Hubbard.

Memorial donations may be made to: St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
