Charles J. St. Angelo, 92, Bristol

Charles J. “Charlie” St. Angelo, 92, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017. He was the husband of the late Mary E. (Gomes) St. Angelo, to whom he was married 54 years before her passing in 2004.

Born in Bristol a son of the late John and Jessie (Cabral) St. Angelo, he was a lifetime resident of Bristol.

Drafted into the service after his high school graduation, he was a proud veteran of the US Army having served during WWII. He worked as a dealer alongside his family who owned St. Angelo Buick on County Road in Barrington and in East Providence for more than 50 years before retiring in 1999.

He is survived by one sister, Bertha Zeitler of Bristol, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Phoebe Hearson, Lillian Parkin, Elsie Santoro, John Jr., James, Edward and George St. Angelo.

His funeral service will be held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. from the Wilber-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St., Warren, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Bay Parish, 645 Main St., Warren. Burial in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Warren. Visiting hours, Thursday, 4-6 p.m.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
