Bristol's Town Common gazebo gets a free new roof

Posted

Ever since he was young kid, Bristol’s Kevin Sousa marveled at the glistening white Gazebo, an iconic structure located smack dab in the middle of the Town Common.

Recently Sousa, 44, owner of Quality Construction and Roofing Co. Inc., offered his services, free of charge, to the Town of Bristol to re-shingle the roof of the structure. He and his crew began the job early Tuesday morning, and completed it during the afternoon. As he exclaimed, it was a “labor of love.”

Kevin also had an ulterior motive behind all of this. As a first-class musician with the St. Elizabeth Band, he looked upon the project as a chance to “spruce up” the structure for any future musical performances or local town events, like the annual Bristol Fourth of July Flag Day ceremonies.

“I love this town and everything it stands for,” said Sousa. “As a kid, I grew up on the Common. My grandparents lived on the corner of Church Street and Pierce Avenue, so I spent many summers playing on the Common during my youth. One of my main connections is that I am a musician in the Portuguese marching bands and played my first concert on the Bandstand at the age of 10 in the early 90’s when the St. Elizabeth’s Band was forming...so the reason why I donated the roof is for everyone to enjoy this beautiful centerpiece in our town.”
