Posted

Bristol’s Parks & Recreation Department has been honored for its excellence in three categories at the recent Rhode Island Recreation and Parks Association (RIRPA) awards that was held at the Roger Williams Park Casino on Friday, April 28.

The department was named the Distinguished Department of the Year for 2022, which recognizes a Parks & Recreation department whose concern for and dedication to the field has been demonstrated through efforts that enhances the lives of the people in their community. Among other attributes, the department stands out for its “Best of RI” fitness classes and its strong engagement with the community, as well as the role it played in support of residents during the pandemic.

Assistant Director Tim Shaw was given the Walter A. Henry Award for Leadership. This award was named in honor of Walter A. Henry, the City of Warwick’s first full-time recreation director and given to a recipient who has demonstrated a significant contribution toward the improvement of recreational programs and/or park facilities through a means that can be viewed as being exceptional on a local, state, or national level.

Last but certainly not least, Director Warren Rensehausen was named to the RIRPA Hall of Fame, which recognizes individuals who have committed a lifetime career to the field of Parks & Rec and who have shown exemplary service during their tenure. With nearly 30 years in the profession, numerous awards and countless hours serving as a youth coach, it is a honor well earned.
