Attilio ‘Tom’ DiDario, 82, of Bristol

Attilio T. “Tom” DiDario, age 82, of Bristol, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Mary Lou (Capuano) Gatta, with whom he shared 25 years of marriage.

Born in Plainfield, N.J., a son of the late Attilio T. and Rose (Vastano) DiDario, he moved to Rhode Island in 1995.

After earning a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1962, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. and was stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Tom worked at the former AFC Cable Company in Fall River for several years and was a member of The Copper Club and The Wire Association. He also worked as a purchasing and contracting administrator at Roger Williams University in Bristol from 2003-2010. An avid golfer, he was an active member of the former Metacomet Golf Club in East Providence and he enjoyed watching football, cheering on the NY Giants and NJ Jets.

In addition to his wife Mary Lou survivors include: a step-daughter, Venita (Gatta) Maciel and her husband Christopher of Narragansett; two grandsons, Sam and Zach Maciel; one sister, Barbara Ripton and her husband John of Maine and three nieces, Jessica, Sarah and Erin. He was the brother of the late Nicholas DiDario and Livia Perpall.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021 at 8:15 a.m. from Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St., Warren, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 141 State St., Bristol. Visitation 8:15 - 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home prior to the Mass. Burial with Military Honors in North Burial Ground, Bristol.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
