10th annual Bristol Harbor Fest is this Saturday

Posted

The Bristol Harbormaster’s Office and local fishing community will be hosting the 10th Annual Bristol Harbor Festival & Blessing of the Fleet at Rockwell Park, beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12.

The full schedule of events includes the Blessing of the Fleet at 1 p.m.; a stuffie competition at 2:30 p.m.; and a traditional native littleneck boil from 5 to 7 p.m.

There will be live music throughout the day, as well as a cash bar for beer, wine, and a raw bar.

Special for 2023 is a replica of the Nao Trinidad, the flagship of the Magellan-Elcano expedition. This unique tall ship was replicated in 2017-2018 with attention to historical detail. Just as with original, the replica of the Nao Trinidad has three masts and a bowsprit. The height of the main mast is almost 82 feet from the waterline. Iroko wood, a very durable tropical wood, was used in the construction. The build took about 14 months, and the Nao Trinidad was launched on March 11, 2018 from its home port in Huelva, Spain.

The 93-foot, 200-ton vessel includes more than 1,200 square feet of deck space over four decks, a captain’s cabin and other accommodation. It can hold 100 people for special events and host 2,000 visitors a day. To purchase tickets visit naotrinidad.org/en, or buy on site.

Though the Festival is free to attend, tickets to this year’s littleneck boil are $30 each and can be purchased at the Harbormaster’s Office or BristolHarborFest.com. An optional steak dinner is also available. Children receive a free hot dog with purchase of a ticket.

The Bristol Harbor Festival is a fun, family event that promotes use of the waterfront and strengthens ties between the Bristol Harbormaster’s Office, the local fishing community and those who explore Bristol, by land or by sea. Funds raised will be used for marine-related children's activities.
