Stolen in Barrington: Four fishing rods, two new trash carts

Trash cart case solved — neighbor was using the carts

Posted

In separate incidents last week, one Barrington resident reported the larceny of four fishing rods, while another resident reported her new trash and recycling carts stolen.

On Tuesday, July 14, a man stopped into the station to report that someone had stolen four fishing rods off his boat, which he keeps docked at a Bay Spring marina. The man told police the fishing rods had been left on the deck — each one is valued at about $700, he said. Police are reviewing video footage from the marina. The incident occurred between July 6 and July 11, police said.

On Wednesday, July 15, a New Meadow Road resident stopped into the station to report that someone had stolen her new trash and recycling carts. Police contacted Mega Disposal — officials there checked a spreadsheet with trash and recycling cart serial numbers and confirmed the resident had been delivered a trash cart and a recycling cart as part of the new collection system. Police said it appeared a neighbor may have taken the carts, possibly by mistake. Police spoke with the neighbor, who had two trash carts and two recycling carts in front of her home. That resident agreed to return one trash cart and one recycling cart to her neighbor. No one was charged.
