Barrington Police seize electric bike that was stashed near YMCA

Posted

Barrington Police were conducting routine checks around the Barrington Shopping Center on Saturday, Aug. 1 at about 1 a.m. when officers spotted two juveniles sitting on electric bikes behind the Shaw’s Supermarket. Electric bikes and electric scooters are banned from the shopping center.

Police said the juveniles fled the scene on the e-bikes. Police searched the surrounding area and later found one of the e-bikes tucked behind a kayak rack near the Bayside Family YMCA — the YMCA and the supermarket are separated by a section of woods. Police said a bike helmet was left with the bike.

Officers seized the e-bike and helmet and brought them back to the station. Police said anyone who wants to claim the e-bike and helmet should contact Barrington Police at 437-3935.
