Barrington advances to State Tournament

The Barrington Minors Division All-Star softball team defeated Portsmouth in dramatic fashion on Friday night, battling back from a run down in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The 10-9 win propels Barrington into the State Softball Tournament, which will be played at Tiverton Farm Field, starting July 18.

Barrington trailed 9-8 heading into the bottom of the last inning. Barrington's Keira Martin led off with a hit just out of the reach of the Portsmouth third baseman. Martin stole second, and then scored on a single by Claire Bickford down the right field line.

With the game tied, Barrington loaded the bases on a hit by Layla Kupperman and a walk by Piper Morrissey. With two outs, Sky LoVerme blasted a single up the middle, driving in the winning run.

Barrington players, coaches and fans celebrated the exciting victory, and RI Little League official Bob Walker later presented the championship banner to the team.
