Melanie Roy, the library media specialist at Hampden Meadows School in Barrington, has been selected as the Rhode Island School Librarian of the Year.

The news was warmly received by Hampden Meadows School administrators, teachers and students. Hampden Meadows School Principal Tracey McGee was pleased to hear about Ms. Roy's recent award

"She is a positive role model for all students and staff and enhances all the students' experiences with rich literature," she said.

Just a year ago, Ms. Roy received a Golden Apple Award from the Rhode Island Department of Education and Channel 10.

For the library award, Ms. Roy was honored at a special event late last month at Bryant University, which was sponsored by Rhode Island Library Association, the RI Coalition of Library Advocates and School Librarians of Rhode Island.

The Rhode Island Library Association is a professional organization that serves its members through career development, education, advocacy, networking partnerships, and legislative action.
