Barrington School Department spending $36K on DEI audit
School board accepts bid from Center for Leadership and Education Equity
Barrington Public Schools will spend $36,862 on a DEI — diversity, equity and inclusivity — audit.
Members of the Barrington School Committee approved the expenditure during the July 14 meeting. The Providence-based company Center for Leadership and Education Equity submitted the winning bid to the district.
Paula Dillon, the assistant superintendent of Barrington schools, said the district has conducted its own internal reviews of diversity, equity and inclusivity, but the schools’ DEI committee recommended that there be an external audit.
The audit will include a review of district information and the implementation of any changes or work deemed necessary. The audit would likely take the majority of the school year to complete, officials said. The audit will include all six public schools in town.
Barrington School Committee Chairwoman Gina Bae made a motion to approve the acceptance of the bid. The motion was unanimously approved.
