Barrington High School teams prep for postseason action

Field hockey set for semifinals; tennis earns second seed

The Barrington High School field hockey team enters the championship bracket as the number three seed and will play against East Greenwich in a semifinals showdown. 

The Eagles finished the regular season with a 13-2-1 record, while Moses Brown was number one at 14-1-1 and East Greenwich was second at 14-2. LaSalle is the fourth seed entering the playoffs with a 9-6 record. 

Barrington went undefeated through the last five games of the regular season, knocking off LaSalle, Lincoln School, North Kingstown and South Kingstown, and tying Moses Brown, 2-2. The Eagles last loss came against East Greenwich, 2-1, on Oct. 5. Earlier in the season, on Sept. 12, Barrington defeated East Greenwich 2-1. 

The semifinals are set for Nov. 1, and will be played at Cranston Stadium. Barrington and East Greenwich will square off at 7 p.m.

Girls tennis

The Barrington High School girls tennis team is the second seed in the Division One playoffs. The Eagles will play the winner of the play-in match between Portsmouth High School and Mount St. Charles. 

The Eagles finished the regular season with an impressive 11-1 record. Barrington defeated Moses Brown, Prout School, Portsmouth and Smithfield in its last four matches. 

Cross country

The Barrington High School boys cross country team won the Skeeter’s Carter Memorial Bronco Invitational at Deerfield Park on Oct. 20. Barrington finished with 38 points, while St. Raphaels finished second with 52 points and Burrillville was third with 87. Twenty teams competed in the meeting.

Brandon Piedade led the way for the Eagles. Piedade won the race with a time of 15:43.55. Connor Curran was sixth with a time of 16:22.26, and Myles Napolitano was eighth with a time of 16:28.04. Other Barrington runners to finish in the top 25 included Elliot LeFort (13th), Finn Myatt (14th), Christopher Clyne (15th), Charlie Stockwell (19th), Henry Schultz (21st) and Sam Bishop (22nd). 

The Barrington boys team finished the regular season with an 8-1 record. The Eagles’ only loss was to LaSalle Academy on Sept. 19, 22-33.

The Barrington girls finished the regular season undefeated. 

Class Championships are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Covered Bridge Trail at Ponaganset High School. The state championships will be on the same course on Nov. 5.
