Indie Lamb and Lily Cregan win events

The Barrington High School girls indoor track team narrowly defeated two teams in a regular season meet last week.

The Eagles knocked off Cranston West 55-50, and South Kingstown 55-54.

Indie Lamb won the 600-meter race with a time of 1:49.66, and Lily Cregan won the weight throw with a distance of 40 feet, 7 inches.

Jordan Roskiewicz finished second in the high jump with a distance of four feet, eight inches, and was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles.

Kyle Keough ran to a second place finish in the 1,500-meter race, and also finished fifth in the 1,000. Caroline Reznik was third in the 1,500, while Sara Chang was eighth in that event. Olivia Johnson finished fifth in the 600.

Maeve Kelly ran to a sixth-place finish in the 3,000-meter race, Sophie Gardos was eighth in that event, and Natalie Antonio was eighth in the weight throw.

Barrington’s 4x400-meter relay team won, and the 4x200-meter team finished fourth.

Barrington Coach Ed Roskiewicz said the Eagles picked up key points in a number of events.

“In the meet against Cranston West, we won 55-50 and Lily Cregan threw the shot put 23' 10.75" to place 10th in the meet overall,” Roskiewicz wrote in an email. “However, against Cranston West, she finished second while they took 1st, 3rd and 4th. So they scored 6 points and we scored 3. If Lily hadn't thrown the shot put for Barrington, we would have scored zero points and they would have gone 1,2,3 and scored 9 points and would have won the meet.”

Roskiewicz said it was a similar situation against South Kingstown.

“In the meet against South Kingstown we won 55-54 and Natalie Antonio threw a big personal best to finish 8th overall in the 20-pound weight throw,” he wrote. “However, against South Kingstown she finished 2nd, just ahead of the SK girl who finished 9th. If Natalie didn't beat the SK girl we would have lost the meet by 3 points.”
