Annual event set for Indigenous Peoples' Day; volunteers can still sign up

The ninth annual Barrington Day of Caring will be held on Indigenous Peoples' Day, Monday, Oct. 12.

There will be volunteer projects at various sites across town. There will be outdoor cleanups, roadway trash pickups, and nature preserve cleanups. In addition, there will be some light indoor work, such as painting and organizing.

Some of the work sites will also serve as food donation collection spots — all donated items will go to Tap-In (Touch A Person In Need). For residents who typically rely on Day of Caring for home projects such as yard cleanups, painting, and minor repairs, this service is not going away.

For the first time, a second Day of Caring will be held in early 2027 specifically to serve private homes. More details on that date, along with sign-ups for both events, will follow in the coming weeks.

Anyone who would like to register as a volunteer or community partner should contact dayofcaringRI@gmail.com or visit www.blct.org/events
