Barrington School Committee Question of the week

Posted

Question: Do you support the installation of lights at the Barrington Middle School athletic fields?

Adam Stearnbourne — Democrat:

I'm open to it. Field space is tight, and I want to help. But the School Committee needs a formal proposal from Parks and Recreation first. Before any vote, I'd listen to the neighbors who border the fields about light and noise, and ask for firm limits on hours and clear answers on cost. The Town Council and School Committee should plan this together. Kids need places to play. Neighbors deserve a say.

Sarah Whiting — Democrat:

As a former athlete, I see athletics as an important part of student development. I’m open to the installation of lights, but I need more information about the proposal: who is paying for it, how it fits with other park projects, and which sports and students it would support. I also want to understand neighbors’ perspectives. We need better ways to engage before issues reach public comment.
