The overhead lights inside the Bayside YMCA gymnasium reflected brilliantly off the hardwood floor on Friday morning, Oct. 23, as officials gathered to celebrate the $50,000 gym renovation.

The project included refinishing the gymnasium floor, patching and painting walls, installing new curtains and wall pads, and other improvements to the heavily used recreational space. The Bayside YMCA gymnasium serves children, families and adults through basketball, volleyball, group exercise and other programming.

More than $31,000 was raised through contributions from Bayside YMCA members and community supporters, including generous gifts from the United States Coast Guard RO Providence and David Patterson.

On Friday morning, Greater Providence YMCA CEO Karen Santilli, Bayside YMCA Executive Director Ryan Queenan, and Bayside YMCA President Jeff Barton helped lead celebration. The gym renovation follows the completion of major renovations to the Barrington branch’s outdoor pool earlier this year, “reflecting the Greater Providence YMCA’s continued commitment to investing in its facilities and the communities they serve.”

The event featured remarks from YMCA leadership and community supporters, followed by a ceremonial ribbon cutting and group photo at the gymnasium entrance.
