PORTSMOUTH — Two underfed, sick dogs were found abandoned Thanksgiving morning at Glen Farm, and one of them later was euthanized due to poor health, according to police.

On Tuesday, the Potter League for Animals announced it was offering a $15,5000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and prosecution of those responsible for neglecting and abandoning the dogs.

According to Deputy Chief Michael C. Arnold, police received a call at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 25, that two female dogs were found lying on the side of the road in the Gardner Seveney Sports complex.

Police named the dark-colored dog “Turkey” and the white dog “Gravy.” They were taken to an emergency veterinarian where they received treatment for neglect, Arnold said.

“Later in the day, information was received that Turkey needed to be euthanized due to her poor health condition,” Arnold stated in a press release. “Gravy is currently under a veterinarian’s care and is doing better.”

Gravy is currently safe and under the Potter League veterinarian’s care.

Anyone who has any information about this case are asked to contact the Portsmouth Police Department Detective Division at 401/683-0994, or the general line at 401/683-0300.

“While we understand these are unprecedented times with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Potter League for Animals remains available for emergency situations and has programs and resources available to anyone that is in need of assistance with their animals. There is never an excuse to abandon an animal,” the Potter League stated in a press release.

The Potter League said it continues to prioritize intakes and will admit those of an emergency nature, including emergency boarding for unforeseen crises, pet safekeeping for victims fleeing domestic violence, and surrenders where a risk is posed to the animal.
