Barrington Police are investigating two additional complaints filed against former private school coach and teacher Sean Cassidy.
Earlier this month, the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, assisted by members of the Barrington Police Department, charged Cassidy, age 53, of Pawtucket, with contributing to the delinquency of a child, and procurement of alcoholic beverages for underage persons.
The charges stemmed from an investigation into alleged inappropriate conduct between a girl under the age of 16 and Cassidy, who is a former Barrington Christian Academy teacher and coach and a former Barrington Little League softball coach.
Shortly after the arrest was announced, a second alleged victim approached Barrington Police — a 19-year-old woman who is a former BCA student stopped into the station on Wednesday, June 3 and made similar allegations against Cassidy. The woman told police that Cassidy gave her inappropriate gifts.
On Monday, June 8, a third alleged victim came forward. Barrington Police said a local teenage girl approached the Barrington School Resource Officer and shared information about alleged inappropriate physical contact between Cassidy and the girl. Police confirmed this was the first time complaints against Cassidy involved physical contact. Police said the incident may have occurred outside of Rhode Island. Police are investigating. If the alleged incident took place in a different state, Barrington Police will contact the law enforcement agency from that jurisdiction.
On Tuesday, June 9, a fourth complaint against Cassidy was filed. A woman told Barrington Police about an alleged incident involving her daughter and Cassidy. Police said the complaint — it was described as an uncomfortable situation — included information about a one-on-one training session with Cassidy. Police said the alleged incident occurred in January.
The Rhode Island State Police are requesting anyone who is aware of other potential victims relative to this case, to contact the Rhode Island State Police ICAC Task Force at 401-921-1170, or the Barrington Police Department at (401) 437-3935.
“This investigation is ongoing and more criminal charges are expected to be forthcoming,” state police said following the initial charges.
