A toast to Halsey Herreshoff

Posted

Halsey Herreshoff’s remarkable career was celebrated last Thursday, October 29, at the Herreshoff Marine Museum. The event also celebrated the donation of the Nathanael Greene Herreshoff Model Room to the museum.

“His sailing and yacht design careers alone would be enough to secure his place in yachting history,” said HMM Executive Director Bill Lynn in his opening remarks. “His achievements have made him one of the most recognizable and respected figures in international yachting.”

However it was Herreshoff’s vision for the museum that bears his family name that Lynn emphasized in his remarks.

“Thank you for recognizing the importance of this remarkable legacy. Thank you for having the vision to create something that would preserve it. And thank you for the decades of dedication that have transformed that vision into the institution we know today. Your accomplishments on the water have earned you a place in sailing history. But what you've built here will help ensure that the history — and the spirit — of our extraordinary sport will live on for generations to come.”
