The Barrington High School field hockey team evened its record with a 4-0 win over Tiverton on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 3.

Sophia Scandura, a senior member of the team, scored two goals in the victory. Elise Labovitz and Shelby Gasbarro assisted on the goals. Two Barrington freshmen also scored goals: Tilly Naperotic scored with an assist from Gasbarro three minutes into the game, and Lucy LoVerme scored in the fourth quarter, also off an assist from Gasbarro.

The shutout win over Tiverton followed an exciting season-opener. On Tuesday, Sept. 1. Barrington battled East Greenwich, losing 3-2. The Eagles powered to a 1-0 lead when Gasbarro, a senior captain, scored in the second quarter. East Greenwich responded with two goal and carried a 2-1 lead into halftime.

It appeared Barrington had tied the game at 2-2 when Ashley DaCosta tipped in a shot in the second half, but officials reversed the goal call. East Greenwich capitalized on the momentum shift and built a 3-1 lead. Later on, the Eagles answered with a goal by DaCosta, who tipped in a shot by Scandura.

East Greenwich had opened the season with a lopsided 11-0 win over North Kingstown.
