Letter: She has demonstrated a willingness to do the work

To the editor:

I’m writing in support of Neile Hartman for Barrington Town Council.

Effective local government requires thoughtful decision making, careful consideration of the facts, and an understanding of how today’s decisions affect Barrington’s future. Neile Hartman has demonstrated a commitment to these principles through her years of involvement in issues affecting our community.

From organizing residents around development proposals to engaging in discussions about our schools and municipal budgeting, Neile has invested considerable time in understanding the issues facing our town. She asks questions, considers different perspectives, and looks beyond the immediate issue to the broader implications of decisions. That kind of engagement is important in a community where decisions about development, public services, schools, and finances have lasting consequences.

Neile’s involvement reflects more than a willingness to speak up. It demonstrates a willingness to do the work, examine the issues, and contribute to the conversations that shape our town’s future, often without seeking recognition for her efforts.

Serving on the Town Council would be a natural next step in that commitment. Barrington benefits when its residents bring their experience, preparation, and perspective to public service. I believe Neile would bring those qualities to the Council and make a meaningful contribution to the decisions ahead.

I encourage Barrington residents to support Neile Hartman for Town Council.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
