Local sides start District 2 tourney play

BARRINGTON — Host Barrington broke open a close game in the second part of the contest to defeat Rumford 9-3 in the opening round of the 2023 District 2 10-and-under baseball All Star tournament at Chianese Field Saturday night, July 8.

The score was tied at one through three innings before Barrington took control of the contest.  Barrington was set to play Bristol-Warren Monday night, July 10, at Vets Memorial Field in Bristol  at 5:45 p.m.

Rumford dropped to the losers' bracket where another city side Riverside awaited. Riverside lost its opener to Bristol-Warren 10-0. Rumford was set to host Riverside at the Rock Complex on July 10 also at 5:45 p.m.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
