A vibrant and healthy local business community provides many benefits and is important to our quality of life. Among the ways businesses contribute to the Town are through payment of taxes and fees, providing jobs, donating to local organizations, and, most importantly, providing convenient and friendly sources of goods and services.
The town needs to continue to support local business. In recent years we have hired a business liaison, revised the sign ordinance, established an Economic Development Committee, and supported the BBA Banner Program. In addition the streetscape and signage project in the central business district is nearing completion. Taxpayers demonstrated their support for local business by their overwhelming approval of a 1.6 million dollar bond to fund it.
As someone who has operated a business in town for over 40 years, I understand the challenges faced by small business. I will continue to look for ways to support our local businesses including streamlining interactions with Town Government, and ensuring that businesses are consulted before any new regulations affecting them are passed.
