Portuguese water dog injures 69-year-old man

An official at the Bristol Medical Center called Barrington police on Tuesday, July 21 to report a dog bite injury — a Barrington man was bitten on the wrist by a Portuguese water dog.

Police said a Barrington woman was walking her dog on leash in the area of Ferry Lane when she saw a neighbor walking nearby. They began to speak, and the woman mentioned how she had been looking for someone to watch her dog while she was away.

Police said the man she was speaking with, a 69-year-old resident, offered to take care of the dog.

Then, in an effort to better acquaint himself to the dog, he went to pet the dog. The animal allegedly snapped at the man, biting his wrist. The injury required 12 stitches, police said.
