Barrington girl found in wooded area near her home

Barrington Police and Firefighters tracked down a local girl a short time after she was reported missing last week.

A Barrington resident called police on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at about 7:25 p.m. to report her daughter had run away from home.

Police officers responded to the home and searched the interior for the girl. Then they began an exhaustive search of nearby locations, including Kent Street, Sowams School and wooded areas. Police then issued an alert to Warren Police in case the 12-year-old girl showed up in that community.

The Barrington Fire Department assisted in the search — the department used its thermal camera to eventually locate the girl in a wooded area a short distance from her home.

Police said the girl was fine, although she was not cooperative with officers following the ordeal. EMTs transported the girl to a hospital for evaluation.
