Hundreds turn out for fund-raiser despite wet weather

Posted

The Sowams School Octoberfest fund-raiser drew a large crowd on Saturday, Oct. 15, despite some wet weather.

Event organizers moved some of the games and activities indoors — the always-popular bake- and cake-walk filled one room, while face-painting was in another, and games, such as the chicken-toss and Angry Birds ball-throw moved into the kindergarten rooms.

The cafe was set up in the school's foyer, while the class baskets raffle was displayed in an art room. Parents and children moved through the halls enjoying the fun activities.

"The Sowams community feels exceptionally lucky to have teachers, faculty and school leadership that are so dedicated to our children," wrote Shannon Sullivan, the chairwoman for Octoberfest, in a recent letter to the editor. "We are blessed with an active and dedicated PTO board that always goes above and beyond."
