Some members of the Barrington High School boys indoor track team recently shared their thoughts about winning the state championship. The title was the first for the BHS boys track program.

• Myles Napolitano, 4x800 relay: “Just the whole experience of the meet was incredible, the atmosphere that the team made was perfect for everyone to succeed. I think everyone would like to thank the coaches for the season we had, we couldn't have done it without their guidance and support. It’s been an honor just to be a part of a state championship team, especially when it’s Barrington’s first time in school history. Everyone on the team worked so hard all season to get to this point, and their hard work definitely payed off with this amazing win.”

• Brandon Piedade, 1,500-meter and 1,000-meter: “It’s crazy the improvement that we have had up to this point. I would have never expected this win, and I don’t think anyone else did. From the beginning of freshman year, we’ve been hoping to make an achievement like this but we never really saw it within our grasp. This season however, that happened and I couldn’t be more proud of the team for achieving such an astounding milestone. Plus, it has its perks. Coach had to dye his hair pink!”

• Joe Adams, weight throw and shot put: “It felt unreal. Taking down the big private schools like Hendricken and La Salle always feels good because it shows how strong we are as a school. I was so lucky to be able to play a role in our win and there was so many other people who played their roles and put forward their best effort. Being the only thrower from Barrington at the state meet made it all seem so crazy because I would have to run over to all the runners and tell them how I did or to ask how we were doing as a team. And every time I would go over I would hear good news after good news. The whole experience was so fun and exciting and I can’t wait to hopefully do it again.”
