Barrington Police are using extra party patrols to crack down on underage drinking.

On Thursday, June 25, a party patrol unit was checking Barrington Beach at about 8:40 p.m. when officers discovered a group of intoxicated 20-year-olds. Police said the men were all Attleboro, Mass. residents, and had been drinking at the town beach all day long.

Police charged Corey W. McKenna, James A. Burke, and Keaghan Michael Rodrigues with underage possession or consumption-consumption. Police said they found all sorts of alcohol inside the vehicle the men were in — hard cider, beer and vodka.

About an hour later that night, police received an anonymous tip about a large underage drinking party on Miller Street. Officers responded and found multiple cars parked outside a home and loud music coming from the residence. Police said there were about 20 local teenagers at the home, although they believe many more fled the home when officers arrived. They said most of the teenagers at the party were 16- and 17-year-olds.

Police said there was a large amount of alcohol inside the home and marijuana products, including edibles. Police charged Karma K. Rappleye, 18, of Barrington, with underage possession or consumption-possession, and possession of marijuana.

Early Friday morning, about seven hours after breaking up the house party, police were called back to Barrington Beach. A witness said there were two young women at the beach who were highly intoxicated and could "hardly walk." The caller told police he was concerned the women might try to drive themselves home.

Police quickly responded to the beach — it was at about 6 a.m. — and located the women. One woman was 24 years old and the other was 22; both were from out of town, but had been visiting people in the area. Police said the women were drunk and had a difficult time communicating with the officers, and when they did speak with police they were rude and combative. One of the women had been in the water, but lost her top while swimming.

Police transported one woman to the hospital for detox, and the other was released into the custody of her boyfriend. Neither was charged as they were not in possession of alcohol when police arrived.

On Friday night, police responded to a 911 hangup call that had been place from a Sowams Road home. Police believe there had been a large underage drinking party at the home, but it had broken up before officers arrived.

Kids on roofs

Twice last week police responded to schools in town after juveniles climbed onto the roofs.

On Thursday, June 25 at about 9 p.m., police received a phone call from someone who said a group of juveniles outside Primrose Hill School was acting aggressively; she also said there were three kids on the roof of the school.

Officers responded and spotted three boys who refused to get off the roof. Police called the fire department, which brought a ladder to the school; at that point the boys (ages 12, 13 and 14) scrambled off the roof and ran into some nearby woods. Police officers located the boys, and then called their parents to come pick them up.

At about 8:30 p.m. on Friday, police received a call about juveniles on the roof of the high school. This time the boys — two 13-year-olds — were allegedly throwing rocks at cars. Police ordered the boys off the roof and released them to their parents.
