Local band to play a 'river concert' this month

A band with local ties will offer a concert to boaters along the Barrington River later this summer.

The Contusion Band, which features Barrington's Stella Densley, will play a concert from the back yard of a Riverside Drive home on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 4 to 6 p.m.

The concert will be open to boaters — people just need to paddle, motor or sail over the water abutting Riverside Drive.

Keni Densley, Stella's grandmother, said Stella and her bandmates have been playing together for more than a year, but shows have been put on hold because of restrictions surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

Ms. Densley suggested to Stella that she and the band play a show in her backyard, which borders the Barrington River.

"So, long story short, we opened up the 'concert' venue to kayakers and neighbors in Country Club plat and a few others and they entertained a group of about 75-100 from the safety of their own boats," Ms. Densley wrote in a recent email. "It went over so well and we received so much positive feedback that they’re going to play again …"

Ms. Densley spoke with the recreation department director and the town manager about hosting a second performance. She said they gave her the green light for the concert, and that they also spoke about possible future musical events or festivals along the Barrington River.
