To the editor:

Imagine there is a product that you use every day. That everyone uses every day. It allows us freedom of movement. It makes driving to work and to school possible. Without it, modern life would be impossible.

Imagine that this product is made in an old factory in a poor part of the city. It must be transported long distances by truck to where it is needed. The technology to make it is old, but the product is in high demand.

Now imagine that a company proposes to build a state-of-the-art factory that meets all ‘clean-air’ and ‘clean-water’ regulations. It will make this product that everyone needs closer to our town on land that is designated for industrial use just like this. The product may be even better than we are used to because the factory is new and the equipment to make it is new.

This is another way to think about the asphalt plant that is going to be built in Seekonk, Mass.

We like to think that our bucolic town can somehow enjoy all the modern conveniences of life while existing outside of the world that manufactures them. This is one product that cannot be made in Asia, or far away for that matter.

Let us welcome the investment in our neighboring town.
